Jets give IceCaps an extra year at Mile One

For fans of the St. John's IceCaps the upcoming season was supposed to be the fourth and final year for theAHL team, but a deal announced today has extended that contract through 2015-2016.

"This extension will mean two more years guaranteed AHL action in St. Johns," said IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams.

"We are pleased to have agreed to an extension with Danny & the IceCaps organization that will see our top prospects develop their game there through 2016, said Winnipeg Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff.

Williams thanked those involved for making the one-year extension possible, saying the St. John's IceCaps have "proven to be one of the most successful [teams] in the league."

In June, the St. John's IceCaps made it to the American Hockey League's Calder Cup final, losing their shot at the cup to the Texas Stars in Game 5.

In their three seasons at Mile One the St. John's IceCaps have racked up an overall regular season record of 121-84-10-13.

The first game of their fourth season is scheduled for Friday Oct. 10, when theytake on the Providence Bruins.
