Jones recovering from cancer surgery

Newfoundland and Labrador's Opposition and Liberal Leader Yvonne Jones is recovering well Tuesday after surgeryto remove breast cancer.

According to a news release Tuesday, the Liberal Party said Jones's surgery on Monday went well.

"She is home from the hospital, resting comfortably and in good spirits," party officials said.

The party also said that Jones thanks everyone who sent prayers, best wishes and messages of hope over the past several days.

"She has asked people to keep her in their thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks ahead," the release said.

Jones announced Friday shehad beendiagnosed with breast cancer in July.

She said sheintends to return to her post as leader after she has recovered and will lead the party in the next provincial election.
