Over $17K raised for cancer-fighting teen through Big Mary sale

A cheque accumulated from the sale of Mary Brown's Big Mary sandwiches at one location in the St. John's metro area was presented to a cancer-stricken teen Sunday.

A cheque worth thousands of dollars raisedfrom selling Mary Brown's Big Mary sandwiches at one location in the St. John's metro area was presented to ateenage cancer patientSunday.

MakaylaPuddicombeandher family were presented with a cheque for$17,121.90, after they returned home a day earlier from Toronto, where the 15-year-old was undergoing treatment.

Last Wednesday, theParadise location of the chicken restaurant held a fundraiser forPuddicombe, whohas been diagnosed with a rare andaggressivebrain tumour.

Over 1,600 Big Marys were sold. All proceeds went to the teen and her family, who has the financial burden of travelling to and from SickKidsToronto's Hospital for Sick Children for treatment.
