Minimum wage increase under review

Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial government is taking another look at raising the minimum wage.

A three-member review committee has been set up to gather public and stakeholder feedback on minimum wage until September 15, 2012.

Since 2005, minimum wage in the province has gone up from $6 to $10, a 67 per cent increase.

"It is important that as we move forward, factors such as the needs of workers and the employers ability to pay are considered," said Minister Terry French Friday.

He said the government is looking for public feedback on changes to minimum wage and would like people to consider these questions:

• What are your views regarding changes to the minimum wage?
• What are the issues you think should be considered in making changes to the minimum wage?
• If you see challenges associated with increasing the minimum wage, how could these be addressed?
