More e-waste drop-off sites than expected, association says

An association that collects discarded and unwanted electronics says it is well ahead of its target to have more than a dozen drop-off centres ready across the province.

An association that collects discarded and unwanted electronics says it is well ahead of its target to have more than a dozen drop-off centres ready across the province.

The Electronics Products Recycling Association of Newfoundland and Labrador announced this week that 46 drop-off locations have been established, with the latest opening in Marystownon the Burin Peninsula, and Clarenville on the east coast of the island.

The association's goal was to have 19 centres open by July.

Many of the centres are located within existing beverage recycling facilities, but program director Terry Greene notes the newest drop-offs have opened up in business and retail spaces.

There is no fee to drop off old electronics, as an additional fee is attached to the purchase of newelectronics.
