Motorcyclist killed by alleged drunk driver

A 27-year-old man succumbed to his injures Friday afternoon following an accident on Kenmount Road in St. John's.

A 27-year-old man succumbed to his injuries Friday afternoon after being struck by a pick-up truck while driving his motorcycle on Kenmount Road earlier that day.

Around 11:15 a.m., RNC and paramedics were called to a collision near the intersection of Polina Road and Kenmount Road involving a truck and motorcycle.

Police said the truck was turning left from Polina Road onto Kenmount Road and the motorcycle was travelling east on Kenmount Road when the accident took place.

The driver of the motorcycle was transferred to hospital with serious injuries and died later that day.

RNC said the 65-year-old driver of the pick-up truck was drunk.

The St. John's man has been charged with impaired driving and impaired driving causing death.

He was released to appear in court at a later date.

Police said they will not be releasing the name of the victim.
