MUN reopens after lead found in water, testing continues

Memorial University reopened its St. John's campus on Sunday, after high lead levels were found in the engineering and music building's water last week.

Water samples from all buildings on the St. John's campus are currently being tested, with results expected to come back in the next few days.

In the meantime, MUN is providing bottled water to everyone on campus and has installed lead-removing filters in some of its water fountains.

There issignagein all buildings with instructions on where to find safe drinking water locations.

Aramark and other food vendors on campus are using bottled water to prepare food.

The Childcare Centre is also open and has been given priority for water testing.

Water samples from the Marine Institute will be tested next week. University officialssaid that there is no identified concern at the Marine Institute, because it operates on a different water main from the main St. John's campus.

The water samples were sent to a laboratory in Nova Scotia, which is the closest accredited testing facility.

The university made the announcement Sunday morning and have issued a Q&A document.

MUN has not released when its water was last tested for lead, saying that information is not yet available.
