Newfoundland and Labrador's recycling agency is showing cautious interest in a tire recycling initiative in Nova Scotia.

Newfoundland and Labrador's recycling agency is showing cautious interest in a tire recycling initiative in Nova Scotia.

Used tires in that province are recycled as construction material, most often used as a light-weight replacement for gravel.

The head of Newfoundland and Labrador's Multi Materials Stewardship Boardsaid the group is weighing costs and benefits ofa similarprogram.

"We'd have to collect tires from more than 600 different locations around the province," the MMSB's Leigh Puddester said. "So, you can imagine how the logistics required to collect those tires and move them to a central storage site."

If the MMSB decided to pursue a similar program, it would require more money from the province, Puddestersaid.
