The Newfoundland and Labrador government has called a tender to find private colleges to offer Adult Basic Education.

The program was cut from the College of the North Atlanticthe province's public college system in the last provincial budget.

The government said the tender call only applies to communities where the College of the North Atlantic was the only place to enroll in ABE.

Officials have said students already in the program at CNA will get help moving to a new school.

The province maintained that it cost $5,000 more per student to provide ABE at the College of the North Atlantic than it would at a private institution.
