Newfoundland and Labrador signs skilled workers agreement with B.C.

Newfoundland and Labrador has signed an agreement with British Columbia, which Premier Paul Davis says will allow a greater movement of skilled workers between the two provinces.

Davis and B.C. Premier Christy Clark signed the agreement on Thursday which they say will enhance workforce cooperation between B.C. and the province.

The leaders hope the agreement will allow the two provinces to better share workers and labour information. As well, they expect it will allow skilled workers to work towards their certification in one province when employed in another.

Davis said this will make it easier for workers to find jobs in both provinces, and that breaking down employment barriers with B.C. will benefit the Newfoundland and Labrador economy in general.

"The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador supports a national vision for our country's evolving economy," he wrote in an official statement.

"A mobile workforce plays an important role in this vision, and this type of partnership is a building block of our Population Growth Strategy."
