N.L. war history comes to St. John's airport

Newfoundland and Labrador's war history will soon be recognized country-wide, if The Rooms has its way.

The museum is placing boards and banners about the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel throughout St. John's International Airport, where it should reach thousands of passengerseach month.

Keith Collins, head of the St. John's Airport Authority, says the airport wanted to do its part by displaying the "remarkable" artwork.

"This anniversary is so important to our province and everyone in it, that we just want to be part of helping to tell the story."

The collection of banners tell the story of Newfoundland and Labrador's sacrifice in the First World War. They're spread over walls, poles and windows in the airport.

Dean Brinton, CEO of the Rooms, says the museum and archivesis doing everything it can to make Newfoundland and Labrador's history known.

"There are a great many people in Canada that don't know why we call July 1Memorial Day," he said.

" And I think, after this July 1, a great many more are going toknow all about this aspect of our culture."
