N.L. to be represented at climate change conference in Paris

Newfoundland and Labrador will be sending a representative to the United Nations climate change conference at the end of the month.

Newfoundland and Labrador will be sending a representative to the United Nations climate change conference in Parisat the end of the month.

PC Leader Paul Davis said the province will send anofficial tothe conferencefrom Nov.30 to Dec.11.

COP21, as the conference is called, will aim to set new global targets after 2020 to prevent a two-degreerise in global temperatures.

"We are big in the oil industry and we know oil industry is traditionally not the friend of our climate, but we also know that we've taken revenues from our oil industry and invested in renewable sources of electricity," Davis said, citingthe money invested in Muskrat Falls.

Davis said he would like to send an elected representative to the conference in Paris, but it begins on election day.
