7 new COVID-19 cases in N.L., plus 11 new cases confirmed on ship in Conception Bay

Sunday's update means 12 crew members aboard the Federal Montreal, currently docked in Conception Bay, have COVID-19. All crew members have also been tested for the virus, according to public health.

Newfoundland and Labrador is reporting seven new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with a cargo ship anchoredin Conception Bay also reporting 11 new cases among crew members.

The seven cases not aboard the ship are related to travel within Canada.The new cases include:

  • Two men between 20 and 39 in the Eastern Health region.
  • A woman in her 60s in Eastern Health.
  • Two men between 20 and 39 in the Central Health region.
  • Two men in their50s in Central Health.

With the 11 new cases reportedaboard the Federal Montreal cargo ship Sunday, a total of 12 crew members are confirmedpostive for the virus. According to public health, all crew members have now been tested.

One crew member is in hospital due to COVID-19.

There is no risk ofcommunity spread, according to Sunday's release from public health, as crew members remain on the ship and arefollowing orders directed by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Sunday's cases bringthe number of active cases in the province to 51, including the 11 new cases on the ship. There are 29active cases in Eastern Health, 10in Central Health, 10in the Western Health region and two in the Labrador-GrenfellHealth region.

There are no new recoveries being reported Sunday, with two people in hospital due to COVID-19, down from three on Saturday.

In all, 133,709people have been tested for the virus in the province, including 332in the past day.

3 travel advisories issued

Because of the travel-related cases, two flight advisories were issued by public health. Passengers who travelled on Air Canada Flight 8018 from Montreal to St. John's on Thursday andthose who travelled on Air Canada Flight 8008 leaving Toronto on Thursdayand arriving inDeer Lake on Friday should arrange a COVID-19 test.

A third travel advisory was issued shortly after Sunday's update, advising passengers who travelled on Air Canada Flight 8016 from Montreal to St. John's on Friday to get tested for COVID-19.

Health officials also provided an update on two cases in which the source of the infection source. A case reported Saturday in Eastern Health is related totravel within Canada, while a case under investigation in Western Health announced April 23 does not yet have a known source of infection.

Newfoundland and Labrador saw a total of 30cases over the past week.The number represents a jump of 16from last week, when the province saw 14 cases from April 18 to April 24.

Elsewhere in Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia reported 133 new COVID-19 cases Sunday. There are now 822 active cases in the province.

New Brunswick reported sixnew cases of the virus, along with its 37th virus-related death.

Prince Edward Island had not given an update onCOVID-19 cases as of 3 p.m. NT.
