The Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs is changing the date of all 2025 municipal general elections, previously slated for Sept. 30.

The move was made to defer the elections for all cities, town and local service districts so that they won't interfere with observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The new date will be Oct. 2, 2025.

General municipal elections are held every four years on the last Tuesday of September, in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act.

As per the new Towns and Local Service Districts Act, which comes into effecton Jan.1, an election for local service districts will also take place every four years with the first being on Oct.2.
