Baseball bat with knives taped to it, drugs, cash seized in Operation Titanium bust

A baseball bat outfitted with blades from several utility knives was among the weapons seized in adrug bust on Newfoundland'sAvalon Peninsula last week.

Four people have been charged as a result of Operation Titanium, a 10-month long investigation that saw about $750,000 worth of drugs seized.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-NL) arrested four people on Saturday afternoon, and seized four kilograms of cocaine and onekilogram of hashish in five different search warrants.

Police also seized several pounds of marijuana and approximately 100 oxycodone pills.

"It's a very significant seizure," said CFSEU Supt. Marlene Jesso.

"We believe this is going to make a significant impact. We believe they've been operating for quite a long time now. So I think it's definitely going to put a dent for a while, for sure."

Jesso added that the blade-ridden baseball bat had been "made into a very, very significant weapon."

The CFSEU-NL said Tuesday afternoon thattwo vehicles a 2015 Cadillac Escalade and a 2013 Ford Focus were also seized, as well as firearms, cellphones and money counters.

Police say firearms are more common on the Avalon Peninsula than they used to be.

A St. John's man, 44, as well as a man, 39, and a woman, 36, from Pouch Cove were arrested. A Montreal man has also been charged.

The four are facing charges of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, possession of an illegal drug for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking in cocaine and marijuana, the CFSEU said.

They have since been released on court-ordered conditions.

According to police, the four accused were known to police.

Police said their investigation is ongoing, and other arrests are pending.
