Pardy asking Legal Aid to pay more for private lawyer

A man who's accused of killing his former girlfriend is seeking extra money from Legal Aid to pay for a private lawyer.

A man who's accused of killing his former girlfriend is seeking extra money from Legal Aid to pay for a private lawyer.

Trevor Pardy is charged with first-degree murder for the alleged shooting death of Triffie Wadman in the west end of St. John's in October 2011.

Legal Aid is willing to pay for a private lawyer for Pardy at its own rates, which is about $60 an hour.

But Pardy said he can't find anyone willing to take his case for that amount.

Pardy said he believes he'll be able to get private counsel if the court orders Legal Aid to pay abovethose rates.

A hearing for his request will be held later in March.
