The highest court in Newfoundland and Labradorhas upheld Trevor Pardy's conviction for murdering his former girlfriend Triffie Wadman in St. John's six years ago.

Pardy, 40,had asked the appeals division of the Supreme Court NL to overturn his conviction.

Pardy argued that the judge at trial had erred in his instructions to the jury.

In a unanimous decision, the three-judge panel of the appeals court ruled that the trial judge's instructions to the jury were adequate.

Pardy shot Wadman, 25, in a cul de sac in west end St. John's in October of 2011.He was convicted of her murder in November2015 following a 15-day trial.

Part of what took place was caught on a 911 recording when Wadmancalled to say she had been shot. She can be heard saying:"He shot me. He shot me. I'm dying."

Pardy claimed the shooting was an accident, and that the gun went off when he and Wadman struggled.

He had the gun in his hand when the police arrived, and engaged them in a four-hour standoff.
