Poor weather conditions causing flight delays in Labrador

A week of adverse weather conditions means flight delays in coastal Labrador communities continue Wednesday morning.

'The summer that wasn't' means only odd flights able to travel along coast, says Philip Earle

Flights to coastal Labrador are on hold Wednesday morning, due to weather conditions in the area.

Weather conditions in Labrador arecausingtravel delays for flights in the region.

Air Labrador says flights to coastal Labrador are on hold as of 7 a.m. due to the weather.

In Nain and Makkovik, overcast skies, fog, mist and a low ceiling arecausing disruptions.

"This week has been a weather write-off so far," Air Labrador tweeted on Tuesday.

PhilipEarle, president of Air Labrador, said it's beena week since regular flight schedules have been able to operate.

"I guess we'll refer back to it as the summer that wasn't," said Earle.

"It's been very frustrating for our customers, naturally. It's been very frustrating for us as a company."

Earle said he's spoken with senior staff about this summer's exceptionally poor weather conditions and the number of delays.

"This is probably the worst and this is probably one of the longest stretches. We've seen it in the wintertime, but not in the summertime," he said.

According to Earle, there are a number of travellers in the area unable to depart because flights can't get into the remote airports along the coast.

"We haven't really been able to operate anything except for an odd flight here or there," he said.
