Premier's office gutted ahead of Coleman's arrival

The change of command has begun at Confederation Building.

A spokesperson for the premier's office confirmed Friday that a transition team will be in place by Monday as the eighth floor prepares for the arrival of the PC party's next leader, and Newfoundland and Labrador's next premier, Frank Coleman.

"As with any transition, there will be change,"said Premier Tom Marshallin a statement emailed to CBC.

The government did not issue a news release on the changes, but the statement said "the transition team will be in place to take the premier's office through the next six weeks in an orderly and organized manner."

Darrell Hynes becomes the interim chief of staff, replacing Ross Reid;while Larry Wells Marshall's longtime executive assistant in his district of Humber East remains his principal assistant. Milly Brown also stays on as director of communications.

"Change also brings renewal and revitalization, and the party is looking forward to the next six weeks as a productive period, culminating with our convention in July," Marshall said.

Coleman will be declared the party's next leader at a convention July 5-6 in St. John's, but it remains unclear when he will officially replace Marshall as premier.

Coleman is also expected to seek Marshall's seat in Humber East shortly thereafter.

Marshall has previously said he will not seek re-election.
