Public libraries dealt $1.2M budget cut
Newfoundland and Labrador's 96 public libraries are being hit by a $1.2 million dollar cutin this year's provincial budget.
Education minister Clyde Jackman said the cut, which will be up to 10 per cent of the library system's budget, will mean the hours of the libraries will be reduced and some administration jobs will be lost.
"The reductions have been primarily in staffing of that upper level, and also the savings in the 6.5 per cent reduction in hours," said Jackman.
Jackman added a regional office in Corner Brook will also close.
However, Jackman said the library system will have the same amount of money to buy books and resources.
