Public meeting to discuss controversial cell tower plan

A neighbourhood group in St. John's is meeting Monday night to debate Bell Mobility's proposed cellphone tower in the west end of the city.

A neighbourhood group in St. John's is holding a public meeting on Monday night to discuss Bell Mobility's proposed cellphone tower in the west end of the city.

The Protect Caribou Hill Park group is inviting concerned area residents and citizens to attend the public forum.

Bell Mobility wants to put the structure in the middle of a residential area, andapproximately 90 metres from St. Mary's Elementary School.

Residents, as well as city council, have expressed concerns aboutthe proposal.

Monday's meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Canon Stirling Auditorium at St. Mary's Church on Craigmillar Avenue.

St. John's city council is also expected to release a new siting protocol for cellphone towers at its regular meeting on Monday afternoon.
