Three people were rushed to hospital Wednesday evening Wednesday night after a collision in downtown St. John's.

Two cars collided on Military Road on the eastern side of Rawlins Cross, a cluster of roadsconnecting downtown traffic with the city's east end.

There was no word Thursday morning on the severity of the injuries.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary closed the road down for about 90 minutes, backing up traffic in several directions.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Meanwhile, a separate accident caused another traffic snarl during rush-hour traffic on Wednesday evening.

No one was injured when two vehicles collided on Kenmount Road, although the RNC said that a Mount Pearl man, 23, faces charges of impaired driving.
