RCMP says biker assaulted cops

A member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club who the RCMP says attacked two off-duty members of the force in a Gander bar more than a week ago has turned himself in.

Patrick Wallace Bemister, 26, turned himself in to police in Grand Falls-Windsor just before 5 p.m. after a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was transported to Gander, where he will appear in court on Tuesday morning.

Bemister is charged with assaultingtwo RCMP officers.An assault against a third officer by another person in the same incident is still under investigation.

Bemister is also charged with assaultinga bartender in a differentclub.

The three RCMP officers, who workout ofthe Gander detachment,suffered only minor injuries.

On Saturday, the RCMP issueda new release asking for the public's help to find Bemister. They're also warning peoplenot to approach him.

Outlaws open shop

The Outlaws Motorcycle Club recently opened a chapter housein a Gander strip mallthat's home tomultiple bars.

Residents of the communitywere reluctant to speak about the bikers after they moved in, but one person told CBCthat club members had been selling beerwithout a licence.

Last week, Gander Mayor Claude Elliot said the community would have to let the police deal with any issues involvingthe motorcycle group.
