Report of polar bear near St. Anthony RV park

Police are warning peoplethat a polar bear may have come ashore nearSt. Anthony, on the tip of Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula.

RCMP said Saturdaythey had received a call about a sighting in the area of the Triple Falls RV Park, about eight kilometres from the town.

The park is also home to a popular licenced salmon river.

Police areadvising anyone near the park to be on their guard, and to be extra cautious with children and pets.

"Conservation officers have been advised of the situation and are taking the necessary steps to actively locate the bear and secure it," the RCMP stated in a news release.
