Sean Frampton stays in jail, alleged accomplice granted bail

A man who the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said took part in a brazen daylight bank heist has consented to remain in jail until his next bail hearing.

Sean Frampton, 26, will appear in St. John's provincial court on Thursday for a bail hearing.

Frampton is alleged to have enteredCIBC in Churchill Square around 3:00 p.m.Saturday, wielding a knife and demanding cash.

Police said Frampton fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a grey minivan, which was later discovered by officers on Alderberry Lane.

Officers located Frampton and his co-accused Patrick Bennett, 23, in the same area as the vehicle.

Bennett was released on Tuesday onstrict conditions.

On Sunday, theRNC announced it would also be laying charges against Framptonrelated to four convenience store holdups.

However, Frampton was only officially charged with the armed robberies of Hamilton Convenience, Blackmarsh Superette and Deli, Cornwall Superette and Hickey's Superette on Tuesday.

In all four cases, police said Frampton was carrying a knife and had his face concealed.

The alleged robberies took place onAug. 31, Sept.4, Nov. 4 and Nov. 27.

Shooting victim

Three months ago, Frampton was involved with police but in that case he was the victim.

Frampton was the target of a drive-by shooting in a west end St. John's neighbourhood on Sept. 13.

He was shot multiple times on Boyle Street, but was in stable condition while being treated in hospital.

No one has been arrested in relation to the incident.
