William Snelgrove, the 82-year-old berry picker who went missing from his personal care home in Conception Bay South on Monday, has been found alive, according to police.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said on Tuesday afternoon that Snelgrovehad been located, and was being treated by emergency personnel. He was being taken to hospital for additional medical treatment.

Police said in a statement that Snelgrove was founded in a wooded area near Red Bridge Road, at about 3 p.m.

According to Sgt. Paul Didham, Snelgrove was located by a C.B.S. resident who joined the search effort. He was conscious and alert when he was found.

"This is just a fantastic outcome, a lot of cases we deal with similar to this, we don't end up having the same results," Didham said.

Snelgrovewent missing at about 1 p.m. on Monday after he left his personal care home to go berry picking in Foxtrap.

He was last seen Monday on foot near the power substation on Middle Bight Road, and was reported missing around 7 p.m. when he didn't return home.

Despite being away from his home for 30 hours, Snelgrove was found in pretty good shape, according to Didham.

"It certainly speaks well for Mr. Snelgrove," he said.

"He's not a younger man, but he's certainly well accustomed to being in an outdoor environment."

The Rovers ground search and rescue team and a Cormorant helicopter from the search and rescue squadron in Gander were active Monday night and a helicopter was back in the air Tuesday morning.

Police said the C.B.S. fire department also assisted.
