A second passenger in a car that crashed near Bellevue, N.L., on Thursday has succumbed to his injuries and died, police say.

The RCMP said in a press release Monday that the 39-year-old man was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He died Friday, following the death of a 40-year-old woman who was also in the car and died at the scene.

The RCMP responded to the scene of the collision after someone reported an SUV had rolled over on the Trans-Canada Highway. The force says both occupants of the car were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle.

Police haven't disclosed the cause of the crash and say they are continuing to investigate.
