Teachers identified as victims of Butter Pot Park crash
Accident victims taught together at Whitbourne Youth Centre
The RCMP say a second man has died as the result of a multi-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Butter Pot Park on Tuesday.
Both men taught together at the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Centre inWhitbourne.
One of the deceased, 52-year-old Randy Ralph was principal at the centre and a well-known wrestling coach.
Ralph died at the scene of the crash, around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
A second man, Shannon Pittman, 40,has died in hospital. Police said hesuccumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Pittman, originally from Raleigh on the Great Northern Peninsula, is also known as a musician.
He played with his brother ina Pink Floyd tribute band calledIn the Flesh.
His friend, David Norris, told CBC News on Thursday thatPittmanwill be "sadly missed."
"The province lost a great teacheryes, but I'll always remember him for his extraordinary talent when playing lead guitar in our band," Norris wrote on Facebook Thursday.
RCMPCpl. TrevorO'Keefesaid on Wednesday that 11 people andfive vehicles were involved in the crash, andit appears the vehicles started hitting each other from behind when a Good Samaritan tried to help at the accident scene.
Aninjured man remains in hospital in critical condition.
Policehad two accident reconstructionanalysts at the scene.
