4 confirmed dead in crash on Trans-Labrador Highway

Police reopened the highway early Thursday evening.

Head-on crash between 2 pickup trucks happened about 7 km north of Red Bay

Four people are dead, after two pickup trucks collidedon Route 510 between Lodge Bay and Red Bay, say ForteauRCMP.

"Two vehicles, pickup trucks, collided head-on, and what we can say is the four occupants in the vehicles are all deceased. No survivors of this crash," said Cpl. Jolene Garland at RCMP headquarters in St. John's.

Garland said there were two men in one pickup truck and a man and a woman in the other.All were pronounced dead atthe scene.

CBCNews has learned the two men in one of the trucks were from West St. Modeste, approximately40 kilometres southwest of Red Bay.

"Route 510 between Lodge Bay and Red Bay is a paved stretch of highway reported to be in good condition," Garland said.

"This morning there were foggy conditions, and we're not sure if that may have played a factor."

Police from Forteau and Mary's Harbour detachments remain at the scene.Apolice traffic analyst isexpected to arriveThursday evening.It's not known when the investigation may wrap up.

The 80-kilometrestretch of Route 510between Lodge Bay andRed Bay reopened to traffic early Thursday evening.

WanitaStone, Red Bay's mayor,told CBC News that the accident happened about sevenkilometres north of her town.
