Shooting moose from vehicle lands Botwood man with house arrest

A man who shot a moose by discharging his gun out a passenger side window of his vehicle on the side of the highway in central Newfoundland has been sentenced to house arrest.

A man who shot a moose by discharging his gun out apassengerside window of his vehicle on the side of the highway in central Newfoundlandhas been sentenced to house arrest.

Ryan Singh of Botwoodwas charged in October 2013after provincial fish and wildlife officers received a complaintsomeone had fired a gun from a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway near Bishop's Falls.

Singh pleaded guilty and was sentenced last Wednesday for illegal big game hunting and firearms offences.

According to the Department of Justice and Public Safety, Singh discharged the gun through the passenger side windowwhile he was sitting in the driverseat.

There was someone sitting in the passenger seat at the time the shot was fired.

Singh has to pay a combined total of $1,500 for hunting big game without a valid licenceand discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

In addition to the fine, Singh has been sentenced to four months of house arrest and will be prohibited from holding a big game licence for five years.
