St. John's city council has approved rezoning land which will take former premier Danny Williams's latest development project one step closer to becoming a reality.

The council signed off on the rezoning of four large parcels of land west of Southlands near Mount Pearl to make way for the proposed Glencrest development.

The enormous project, expected to rival the town of Gander in size, will include residential neighbourhoods, shopping districts and industrial areas.

Williams and his development team still have to complete their concept plan, and go through the full development process with the city before construction can begin.
