St. John's shooting sends man, 21, to hospital

Police in St. John's say a shooting that sent a young man to hospital withserious injuries late Monday night was not a random attack.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the shooting happened outside a home on Boyle Street in the city's west end.

Police tape had been circling Boyle Streeta residential street near Columbus Driveon Tuesday morning.

Neighbours told CBC News they heard a screaming followed by a loud bang around 11 p.m. on Monday night.

An ambulance arrived on the scene shortly after.

"One neighbour says there has been a lot of fighting at the house with many people coming and going in the early morning hours," CBC reporter Glenn Payette said.

Police saidthe man, 21,was taken to hospital in serious but not life-threatening condition.

According to the RNC, the man remained in hospital Tuesday with what appears to be gunshot wounds.

The shooting is not believed to be a random attack, but police said they will not released any suspected motives.

RNC said they are putting extensive resources into the case to find the person or personsresponsible.
