Storm continues across island

People on the island can expect a second dose of winter storm throughout Sunday. Blizzard warnings are still in effect across much of the island, as well as winter storm and blowing snow warnings.

Many residents across the Avalon woke up to find their vehicles covered in a layer of ice after snow turned to rain overnight Saturday and into Sunday morning.

Marine Atlantic crossings in the Cabot Strait are cancelled again for Sunday. Customers can check their toll-free telephone line or their website for details.

Manydepartures and arrivalsare cancelled or delayedat St. John's International Airport.Passengers are advised to check with their airline carriers for updates.

While St. John's residents will deal with freezing rain or freezing drizzle on Sunday, the rest of the island can expect more snow and blowing snow.

For residentsin Central and Eastern Newfoundland, the digging-out process is still ongoing as they continue to get hammered with snow.

In Corner Brook, heavy snow and stormy conditions have forced operations at Marble Mountain to shut down for the day.

Road conditions in many parts of the island are fair to poor. The RCMPwere advisedfromthe Department of Transportation and Works that Route 480 to Burgeo is impassable, due to whiteouts from blowing snow.

Power outages in some areas

Meanwhile, residents on the Burin Peninsula, as well as the Bonavista Peninsula, are experiencing power outages. Newfoundland Power said that the cause of the outages is still being investigated.

Power is expected to be restored by 1:00 p.m. to customers on the Bonavista Peninsula, and 4:00 p.m. for customers on the Burin Peninsula.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is experiencing a loss of supply due to their substation in Sunnyside.
