Some St. John's city councillors are calling for a crackdown on illegal dumping after a resident took photographs of a large pile of trash in the south end of the city.

The photos taken near Power's Road in the Goulds area were sent to Coun. Tom Hann

He said the junk included everything from old mattresses to construction waste.

"How can we get them and how can we enforce it because these people, should be ashamed of themselves to be dumping stuff in the countryside and, man, I tell you, it makes me...it makes me nasty. It makes me mad," said Hann at Monday's council meeting.

The photos were taken in the ward represented byCoun. Wally Collins. He agrees with Hann.

"They don't go down on Water Street and throw it out. It's all in Southlands, Shea Heights, Kilbride, the Goulds, and Kenmount Road, you know," said Collins.

Collins said residents in the area should keep an eye out for illegal dumpers.
