The Gander Refugee Outreach group welcomed a Syrian family at Gander International Airport Wednesday morning.

They don't speak each other's language, but two young girls made a connection as a family of Syrian refugees arrived in Gander on Wednesday.

The family of five were tired but smiling as they landed at Gander International Airport. On hand to welcome them was a committee of local volunteers who had sponsored them, and some children who carried small presents.

One young girl presented a stuffed toy to a Syrian child, who thanked her with a shy hug.

Refugee outreach committees in Gander and Lewisporte have raised money to sponsor five families.

A grandmother, Talika Morjan, who arrived in Lewisporte last week said she is relieved to be there, but the rest of her family is stuck in limbo in Lebanon.
