Trevor Pardy files appeal of 1st-degree murder conviction

Convicted killer Trevor Pardy, the Bonavista Bay man who shot his ex-girlfriend four years ago, is appealing his first-degree murder conviction.

Pardy's lawyers, Bob Buckingham and Johnathan McDonald, filed the appeal Tuesday.

A jury found Pardy, 38, guilty on Nov.13of killing Triffie Wadman.Hewas given a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the chance of parole for 25 years, minus time served.

In the appeal, Pardy's lawyers said Justice AlphonsusFaour "erred in law in failing to properly, or at all, instruct the jury on theDefence of Accident."

The jury of seven women and four men took less than two hours to return a verdict last month.

Pardy had claimed the shooting was an accident, even though he was found holding the murder weapon a 9-mm pistol when police arrived on the scene.

He also prevented first responders from attending to Wadman, a mother of one,as she was bleeding on the ground.

No date has been set for when the appeal will be heard.
