Trevor Pardy completed gun safety training, jury told

Trevor Pardywas trained in firearm safety, having completedtwo gun courses in order to own a pistol, an expert testified Monday.

The first-degree trial for Pardy,accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Triffie Wadman, has enteredits 13th day at the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in St. John's.

Jeffrey Reynolds, chief firearms officerwith the RCMPin Newfoundland and Labrador, was called to the stand to testifyabout Pardy'sSmith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

The jury was told the weaponwasused inWadman's shooting.

Reynolds said that Pardy had a permit to transport the weapon from Alberta to Keelsbut was not permitted to have it anywhere outside of the Bonavista Bay community.

In order to have the gun, Pardy would have completed two different gun courses, both of which involve gun safety, Reynolds said.

The safety portion of the courses, Reynolds said,involves storage, trigger locksand keeping the finger off the trigger.

Reynolds noted Pardywas granted his firearms licence in 2011.

RCMP ballistics expert Joseph Prendergast is set to take the stand Monday afternoon.
