A 15-year-old who heard gunshots on the night Triffie Wadman was killed in St. John's says he watched through a fence as she argued with the man who shot her.

Liam Butler, now 19, told a Supreme Court jury Monday that he was hanging out with friends in a shed on Boggy Hall Place when they heard a bang.

Butler, who said he hunted with his uncle, suspected the noise was a gunshot. He said he looked out through an opening in a fence and saw a man and a woman standing close together.

He said they were arguing, both talking loudly.

Butler told the court he saw theman raise "a small gun" and shoot Triffie Wadman. He said she was backing up, trying to raise her arms.

Butlerused a friend's cell phone to call 911.

"Someone just got shot on Topsail Road. I'm actually behind the fence, but I can see the chick through the fence," he told paramedics in a recordingplayed for the jury.

Butler admitted he had smoked a joint that night, two hours before Wadman was shot.

In an earlier statement to police, he said his vision was blurry because he was stoned. On Monday, he testified it was blurry because he could look through the fence with only one eye at a time.

Butler's mother, Sherry Gulliver, also testified. She said she saw her son and his friends by the fence and hetold her to, "'Get down. He's got a gun. It's not safe.'"

Pardy, 38, is accused of killing Wadmanin the early hours of Oct. 1, 2011. The first degree murder trial is in its thirdweek.
