Dwight Ball promises vision for 'The Way Forward' at consultations

The province is expected to float new ideas for doing things differently at a gathering of business, cultural, labour and education leaders Tuesdayat The Rooms.

Premier Dwight Ball has called the event "The Way Forward."

The premier is promising to present a "long term approach to fostering success and innovation in Newfoundland and Labrador" according to the web site for the event.

Ball will address the crowd in the morning and is expected to announce new initiatives.

The initiatives will focus on more efficient delivery of government services, fiscal restraint and getting better outcomes.

The invited guests will break out into private sessions to discuss the issues and provide feedback.

Sources inside government tell CBC News departments were instructed to come up with different ideas to present at the meeting.

The good ideas will go into the spring budget.The ones that go over poorly will be dropped.

Fiscal update still to come

The event is separate from the fall fiscal update which is expected before the end of October.

It will lay out the latest briefingon the province's finances, and the latest plans to reduce the size of the deficit.

The Liberal's first budget, introduced earlier this year, contained many unpopular measures.

The closure of half the libraries, a temporary deficit reduction levy and court closures all had to be changed after public outcry.
