Wolves return to Happy Valley-Goose Bay

At least two wolves that were captured near Happy Valley-Goose Bay and relocated have returned to the area.

The department of Environment and Climate Change issued a press release on Thursdaywarning residents the area that the wolves who were fitted with GPS collars and released in late September about 130 kilometres from Happy Valley-Goose Bayare back near the town.

If you encounter a wolf, the government advises:

• Stay calm
• Give it space
• Back away slowly but do not run.

Pet owners are advised to:

• Keep them indoors or in confined areas
• Limit outdoor time, especially after dark
• Supervise pets at all times while they're outside.

The provincial government says conservation officers with the department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods are looking for the animals. The government has an emergency line set up at 709-897-7116 for anyone to report a wolf sighting.
