Woman dies in fire at N.L. seniors' complex

A 70-year-old woman died and two other people were taken to hospital Saturday following an overnight fire at a seniors' complex in St. John's, N.L.

A 70-year-old woman died and two other people remain in the intensive care unitat a localhospitalfollowing a fire at a seniors' complex in St. John's.

The fire broke out around midnight Friday at a condominium on Tiffany Lane in the city's east end. It's believed the fire began on the third floor of the 45-unit building.

Fire crews were impeded by high winds and cold temperatures as they battled the blaze.

Alternate arrangements were made for dozens of the building's residents. It was not immediately clear when they would be allowed back in the building.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabularyis investigating the cause of the fire.
