Two deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours in two small, remote communities in the Northwest Territories, with RCMP taking a man into custody inconnectionwith one of those deaths.

Policearrested Terry James Vital, 34, whom they say is a "person of interest" in the death Friday morning of a 31-year-old woman in Gameti, an isolated community of 135 located 240 kilometres north of Yellowknife.

RCMP told CBC News Friday afternoon that they are bringing Vital to Yellowknife for questioning.

The police refused to identify the woman who died, other than to say there was some history between her and Vital.

Police are also looking into the sudden death of a 37-year-old man in his house in Colville Lake, N.W.T., which the local health centre reported to police on Thursday.

RCMP say foul play is not suspected, and an autopsy is being done of the man's body.

Both communities are only accessible by airplane, and neither community has an RCMP detachment.

Investigators from Yellowknife were dispatched to Gameti while officers from the RCMP detachment in Fort Good Hope went to Colville Lake, which is about 140 kilometres away.
