2 dogs die from eating toxins in Whitehorse, another sick

Whitehorse RCMPare investigatingafter a third pet in Porter Creek has gotten sick, possibly from eating poison.

Two corgisdied a couple of weeks agofrom ingesting toxins and a larger dog in the same neighbourhoodgot sick thisweek.

"Preliminary results from the toxicology report on the first incident, received April 1, 2015, showed traces of apoisoning agent,"the RCMPstate in a new release.

"It was a Husky and survived, but the stomach contents have been sent out for analysis," saysDave Pruden, manager of bylaw services,who is assisting the RCMP with the investigation.

Hesays it's unclear if the two cases are connected, but says the stomach contents from all three dogs are being examined in Vancouver.

Pruden says there's several different reasons why animals can get sick.

"People should be vigilant when they're out with their animals and be careful and make sure their animals aren't eating things or licking things they shouldn't be."

He warns there can be materials such as anti-freeze near walking trails, but there could also be somebody doing something malicious that is harmful to dogs.
