Alaska Highway crash kills driver, sends passenger to hospital
Single vehicle accident happened Tuesday night near Whitehorse
A 34-year-old man is dead and his passenger is in hospital after the car he was drivingwent off the Alaska Highway near Whitehorse last night.
RCMP say the single vehicle accident happened just before10 p.m. Tuesday, about 20kilometreswest of the North Klondike Highway.
A 2004 DodgeSRT-4traveling south went off the right-hand side of the road, before coming to a rest about 100 metres off the roadway.
The driverwas thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A 30-year-old female passenger was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital and is in serious but stable condition.
Police are investigating the single vehicle collision, but say it appears thedriver was not wearing aseatbelt and the car was travelling in excess of 130 km/h.
Road conditions are not believed to have beena factor.
