Alkan Air is offering flight training at the Whitehorse airport to meet the growing demand for private and commercial pilot licences.

Flight training hasn't been available in Yukon for the past two years.

Alkan is set up for one-on-one training using a Cessna 172 Skyhawk.

So far, the company has had lots of inquiries, but no students have signed up.

It can cost up to $15,000 for a private licence.

Dan Rosen, a pilot with Alkan's air ambulance service, says the career options in Yukon are endless for someone who wants to learn how to fly, from float planes to medevacs.

He says in future the company would like to see Yukon College offering a business aviation diploma.
