Arson suspected in second Inuvik fire

Fire officials in Inuvik say evidence suggests a person is responsible for setting a second fire in a home in the town early Tuesday morning.

Fire chief says stairs of residence doused with accelerant

Fire officials in Inuvik say evidence suggestsaperson is responsiblefor setting asecond fire in a homein thetownearly Tuesdaymorning.

Fire Chief Jim Sawkins says he saw splash patterns onthe stairs of residence on Kugmallit Street, indicating the use of an accelerant.He says it started on the residence's back porch.

"The sad part is, these units on Kugmallit are inhabited. Somebody set the fire. Its more serious in nature, theyre not abandoned."

The fire department received the call around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. Sawkins wasthe first on the scene and used a personal extinguisher. A pumper truck was later called to the scene and put the fire out Tuesday morning.

This is the second fire that's happenedin the same neighbourhood in less than 24 hours.

On Mondaynight, firefighters were called to an abandoned rowhouse on Inuit Road. That firewasextinguished in about two hours.
