The GNWT has replaced Aurora College's Board of Governors with a single administrator, effective June 6.

Theboard will be replaced by Denny Rodgers, currently the general manager of the Inuvialuit Development Corporation. Rodgers previously served as mayor of Inuvik and is the former chair of the Nunavut and N.W.T. Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission.

In a press release, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Alfred Moses said he believed this to be the best course of action for the college as it prepares to go through a comprehensive review.

"The administrator will help to ensure stability and continuity, as Aurora College will be expected to maintain normal operations through the course of both the foundational review and the implementation of the review's recommendations," Moses said in a statement.

Cuts to the college's Teacher Education and Social Work programs for 2017-2018 were deferred until that review is completed. The review is expected to begin this summer.

According to Aurora College's regulations, the minister has the right to replace the board with an administrator if the minister believes it to be in the public's best interest.

In the press release, Moses said the move was a temporary one.
