Cambridge Bay, Rankin Inlet residents vote on beer and wine stores today

Voters in Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, head to the polls today to give their opinion on a beer and wine store in their communities.

Community votes are non-binding, final results rest with the territorial cabinet

The communities of Cambridge Bay and Rankin Inlet are holding plebiscites on whether those communities support having a beer and wine store. (CBC)

Voters in Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, head to the polls today to give their opinion on a beer and wine storein their communities.

Polls are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.

InRankinInlet, voters can go to theSiniktarvikHotel - Salon A. In Cambridge Bay, voters can head to the LukeNovoligakCommunity Hall.

Voters are required to be aNunavutresident for at least one year on May 1 to vote. They are also required to beliving in the community where the referendum is being held.

The results of the plebiscites are non-binding.

The final decision to open a beer and wine store in each hamlet is made by the territorialcabinet. A beer and wine store in Iqaluitis expected to open this summer.
