Big turnout at N.W.T. flu vaccine clinics

People in at least two of the Northwest Territories' smaller communities have lined up at H1N1 flu vaccination clinics this week.

People in at least two of the Northwest Territories' smaller communities have lined up at H1N1 flu vaccination clinics being held this week.

Health-care workers say they have vaccinated almost 200 people on the Hay River Reserve, which has a population of about 300.

So many people wanted the shot that nurses had to request more doses and return the next day to get everyone vaccinated.

It is a similar story in Fort Resolution, N.W.T., where health-care workers say about 300 people more than half of the community's population rolled up their sleeves for the vaccine this week.

Vaccine clinic staff there have been making home visits to administer the shot to younger children who are eligible.

Officials with the N.W.T. Health Department estimate almost 4,000 people in the territory have received the shot so far since Monday, when its vaccination campaign officially began.
