Bike thieves strike tourists visiting Whitehorse

Bike thieves have swiped more wheels in Whitehorse this week, this time making off with two expensive mountain bikes belonging to tourists.

Bike thieves have swipedmore wheels in Whitehorse this week, this time making off withtwo expensive mountain bikes belonging to tourists.

Jason Striker and his wife have been traveling for the last year.

They've been across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico with their camper and bikes. They were camped at the High Country RV park Monday morning, when Striker discovered their bikes were stolen.

"I would say my foot was about eight feet from the bike when it was stolen," he said. "[Even though] they were locked, the lock was gone and the bikes were gone. Everything was gone."

He says after speaking with the police,he learned bike thefts are not uncommon in Whitehorse.

"After theincidenthappened we spoke to the police and we spoke to bike shops and we spoke to pawn shops, we became aware of the fact that this is a common problem. It seemed as though our bikes were targeted," Striker said

Both bikes are Yeti brand.
